Am dy Ysbryd ar ein hynt,

O dan faethlon wlith y nen;
Gwna ni’n ffrwythlon fel y gwinwydd,

‘Come
Down to Bethesda’
Darllenir gan Parchg. Chris P Rees. - Read by Revd.
Chris P Rees.
[ This was written
by Myfyr Emlyn – Rev Benjamin Thomas and was sung at the
opening services
of Bethesda Baptist chapel, Narberth.] [1889] |
Come
down to this Bethesda,
May we Thy presence feel;
Come down to move the waters,
Come down to help and heal;
Make it a “House of Mercy”
And prayer, Lord, we crave;
Come down in all Thy glory,
Almighty One to save ! Come
down to teach all ages
Obedience to Thy rule;
Come down, Thou friend of children,
And bless our Sunday School;
When we who built this temple
Are come to Thee, by grace,
Oh ! help our children's children
To worship in this place. |
Our
sainted friends in heaven
Are near, though far away,
And in their snow-white garments
Rejoice with us to-day;
With praise and adoration
This happy day we see,
And dedicate this building
With singing, Lord, to Thee. Lord,
we have built this temple,
In honour of Thy name;
O fill it with Thy glory,
And with the Saviour’s fame,
May those who worship here
All to Thy glory live;
And when we pray, Our Father,
O answer and forgive. |

Nodyn
o ddiolch gan ein Llywydd

Note
of thanks from our President
Beatrice Davies English
with some of the history of the project |
Yn
dilyn Gwasanaeth Cofeb Myfyr Emlyn, carwn ddiolch i bawb a gydweithredodd
ac a gyfrannodd at y fenter – yn ardalwyr, Gweinidog ac
aelodau Bethabara a chyd-aelodau y Gymdeithas – gwelwyd
cefnogaeth gadarn o sawl cyfeiriad.
Trefnwyd y gweithgareddau ynglyn â’r
Gwasanaeth Cofio a Dadorchuddio'r Garreg Goffa yn broffesiynol
yn ôl ei arferiad gan Will Thomas.
Sbardunwyd y fenter gan awydd Ieuan James a Tom Evans i godi Cofeb
i Myfyr Emlyn, y gwr nodedig a fagwyd ar Rhos Glynmaen. Saif y
garreg drawiadol yn Mynwent Bethabara ger cartref ysbrydol ei
deulu. Llongyfarchiadau i Rheinallt Selyf am ei gampwaith –
y syniad wedi ei selio ar syniad ei gyfneither Elin Owen. Ieuan
a ddaeth o hyd i’r garreg a chydag ewyllys da ei gymdogion
Mr a Mrs Neville Roberts fe’i sicrhawyd, Fe’i cludwyd
a’i gosod yn ei lle gan Ieuan, Rheinallt a Hefin Evans.
Rydym yn gwerthfawrogi cyfraniad y tri ifanc – Leia Wyn
Burge (telynores), Heledd Fflur Evans a Meilyr Tomos – braf
oedd gweld fath ystod o oed a thalentau yn gwau trwy ei gilydd
i greu rhaglen amrywiol a phwrpasol.
Profwyd cwmnïaeth gynnes i ddilyn y seremoni – llawer
o ddiolch i Enid a’i chefnogwyr fu’n paratoi’r
“te festri” flasus ac i’r gwirfoddolwyr niferus
fu’n gweini.
Mae’r “afon fach” a heibio Tyrhos wedi ymdroelli
llawer ers llencyndod Myfyr Emlyn -
“Ond ni ddiffoddir byth mo’r tân
Gyneu’sant hwy ar rôs Glynma’n”

The
following is a translation of the above.
Following the Myfyr
Emlyn Memorial Service, I would like to thank all those who contributed
to the project – local people, members and the Minister of
Bethabara chapel and fellow members of the Society - there was much
support from many directions.
The programme for the Service of Appreciation and Unveiling of the
Myfyr Emlyn Memorial was organized by Will Thomas.
The initiative was triggered by Ieuan James and Tom Evans who wanted
to have a memorial to the notable Myfyr Emlyn, a man raised on Rhos
Glynmaen. An impressive stone now stands at Bethabara Cemetery near
the spiritual home of his family.
We congratulate Rheinallt Selyf for his masterpiece – based
on the idea and design that his cousin Elin Owen had created. It
was Ieuan who found a suitable stone and it was secured with the
goodwill of his neighbours Mr and Mrs Neville Roberts, it was transported
and erected by Ieuan, Rheinallt and Hefin Evans.
We appreciate the contribution of the three youngsters - Leia Wyn
Burge (harpist), Heledd Fflur Evans and Meilyr Tomos - it was nice
to see a range of ages and talents performing together to create
a varied and purposeful programme.
Following the ceremony the congenial company enjoyed tea that was
served at the Vestry - many thanks to Enid and her supporters who
prepared the tasty "Vestry Tea" and for the many volunteers
who served.
The "little stream" (Yr Afon Fach) that ran past the little
cottage of Tyrhos has seen a great deal since Myfyr Emlyn's childhood
-
“Ond ni ddiffoddir byth mo’r tân -
gyneu’sant hwy ar rôs Glynma’n”
‘But the fire [The Cause] that they
started on ‘Rhos Glynmaen’ will never be extinguished’
Beatrice Davies (on behalf of Eglwyswrw
and District Heritage Society).
