Two successful projects completed in 2018

Dau prosiect Llwyddiannus a gwblhawyd yn 2018

Tachwedd 11eg, 2018. Canmlwyddiant diwedd y Rhyfel Byd Cyntaf.
Roedd syniadau a trafodwyd yn gynnar yn 2018 i nodi canmlwyddiant diwedd y Rhyfel Byd Gyntaf wedi casglu momentwm. Trefnwyd arddangosfa gan y grwp 'Crefft a Chlonc' am y penwythnos gyntaf ym mis Tachwedd a chyflwyniad gan Heather Tomos yn rhoi gwybodaeth am y rhai a enwir ar Cofeb Rhyfel y Pentref ar Tachwedd 7fed.
Digwyddiad cymdeithasol o Farddoniaeth a Chân nos Sadwrn, Tachwedd 10fed i goffáu diwedd y Rhyfel yn 1918
Gyda Gwasanaeth Coffa yn Eglwys Sant Cristiolus, fel yn y gorffennol, yn sicr yn rhywbeth arbennig, gan ei bod yn nodi'r union amser i’r rhyfel ddod i ben 100 mlynedd yn ôl.
Trefnwyd i’r goleuadau sy'n goleuo'r eglwys trwy gydol y flwyddyn droi yn goch ar gyfer wythnos Sul y Cofio.
Roedd angen i nodi'r achlysur gyda atgoffa barhaol a phenderfynwyd cael Sedd Goffa, ond mewn cyfnod cyfyngiadau ariannol roedd yn anodd ariannu prosiect o'r fath. Roedd arian y Gymdeithas Dreftadaeth wedi'u clymu, gan ein bod wedi methu â sicrhau arian loteri neu unrhyw gymorth ariannol arall i’n helpi gyda cost o gyhoeddi ein ail lyfr, felly penderfynwyd mynd ymlaen a threfni ariannu y printio ein hunain ac o ganlyniad fyddai ychydig iawn o le i gymryd rhan mewn unrhyw wariant arall.
Fel bob amser bydd rhywun yn dod o hyd i gynnig a allai weithio.
Gyda'r Gymdeithas Dreftadaeth yn cydlynu'r prosiect penderfynwyd ceisio cymorth ariannol gan sefydliadau eraill yn yr ardal, ac roedd yr ymateb yn arbennig. Roedd yn amlwg bod y digwyddiadau trasig a ddaeth i ben 100 mlynedd yn nôl ym meddyliau llawer, ac felly daeth hwn yn brosiect cymunedol go iawn. Ymatebodd pob sefydliad a gysylltwyd yn bositif ac ddaeth y prosiect yn bosibl drwy rhoddion hael gan y sefydliadau lleol ac unigolion preifat, lleol, a thu hwnt. Nid prosiect Cymdeithas Treftadaeth oedd hwn bellach, ond yn hytrach yn brosiect cymunedol i gynrychioli pawb yn yr ardal.
Yn ystod rhyfel 1914 - 1918 bu farw llawer o filiynau, a effeithiwyd filiynau o deuluoedd gan y gwrthdaro mwyaf llym mewn hanes.
Gosodwyd y Sedd Goffa ger y Gofeb Rhyfel ym mynwent Eglwys Sant Cristiolus, Eglwyswrw i nodi'r canmlwyddiant, yn atgoffa barhaol i bawb sy'n ymweld â'r fynwent.
Dyluniwyd, adeiladwyd a gosodwyd y Sedd gan Eifion Thomas o Dinas.
Gall pawb sy'n gysylltiedig â'r prosiect hwn deimlo balchder haeddiannol. Diolch.

Rhagfyr 2018 - Cyhoeddwyd ein llyfr diweddaraf – ‘O Grib y Garn i Frig y Don’ ‘From the Crag of the Cairn to the Crest of the Wave’.
Ar ôl amser hir o gasglu hanesion a storïau gan aelodau’r Gymdeithas Treftadaeth, mae ein llyfr newydd wedi ei gyhoeddi. Llyfr ddwyieithog o’r enw ‘O Grib y Garn I Frig y Don’ / ‘From the Crag of the Cairn to the Crest of the Wave’.
Hanesion ardaloedd lleol, sef Eglwyswrw, Eglwyswen, Meline, Nanhyfer, Llantwd, Trewyddel, Beifil a Llandudoch Wledig. Dyma'r ail lyfr gan y Gymdeithas, dan arweinyddiaeth ein Llywydd a Golygydd y ddau lyfr Mrs. Beatrice Davies.

Rydym yn ddyledus i’r siopau lleol sydd yn gwerthu y llyfr heb unrhyw dâl neu gomisiwn. Diolch.

November 11th, 2018. Centenary of the end of World War One.
Early in 2018 ideas to mark the centenary of the end of World War One had gathered momentum with an exhibition organized by the ‘Knit and Natter’ group for the first weekend in November and a presentation by Heather Tomos giving information on those named on the Village War Memorial on the evening of November 7th.
A social evening of Poetry and Song on Saturday November 10th all at Yr Hen Ysgol.
The Remembrance Service in St Cristiolus Church, as in past years would no doubt be a bit special, as it marks the exact time the guns fell silent 100 years ago.
The lights that light up the church throughout the year will be red for Remembrance week.
It was thought fitting to mark the occasion with a permanent reminder i.e. a Remembrance Seat, but in a time of financial constraints it was difficult to fund such a project. The Heritage Society funds were tied up, as we had failed to secure lottery funding or any other help to finance publishing our second book, therefore we had decided to go it alone and arrange payment for the printing which would leave very little scope to be involved in any other expenditure.
As always someone will come up with a proposition that might work.
With the Heritage Society co-ordinating the project it was decided to seek financial help from other organizations in the area, and the response was overwhelming. It was obvious that the tragic events that ended 100 years before was in the thoughts of many, and so this became a thorough community project. Every organization approached responded positively and the project was only possible by the generous donations from these local organizations, and private individuals, local, and further afield. This was not a Heritage Society project but now a community project representing everyone in the Eglwyswrw area.
During the 1914 – 1918 war many millions died, and millions of families were affected by the deadliest conflict in history.
The Remembrance Seat was installed near the War Memorial at St Cristiolus Church, Eglwyswrw to mark the centenary, a permanent reminder to everyone that visits the churchyard.
The Seat was designed, constructed and installed by Eifion Thomas of Dinas.
Everyone involved with this project can feel justifiably proud. Thank You.
